Clutch pedal adjustment
blompod - January 8th, 2015 at 05:52 PM

I had about 5 inches of play in my clutch pedal, so I adjusted it to what I think is about half and inch of play now. Clutch takes up really high now, that normal? also can you swap out the nut and lock nut for the later wing nut? 7mm thread are they the same?

depends on what clutch arm you have on the gearbox

yes you can swap it over

i would back off so as you have about an 1" of play but otherwise that sounds about right

Nah, just looked it up in me workshop manual and it says 12mm before you reach resistance.

3-5mm free play at the release lever and adjust the pedal rake if necessary for the right stance.

The release lever is the one on the gear box? and how do you adjust the pedal rake? because it is quite forward....

you need fee play at gear box. I just adjust mine so they start working about a inch off the floor, that way less chance of riding and wearing out the clutch,

Pedal rake adjusted by the stop plate on the floor behind the clutch and brake pedal pivot. This should be adjusted first for how you like the pedals set.

Then you adjust both the brake pedal actuation rod and clutch pedal freeplay.

yes the release arm is on the passenger side of the gearbox. doing grumbles method means you don't have to keep get under the vehicle to make additional adjustments but you have to push against the arms spring force until you feel extra resistance of the clutch pressure plate so can be harder to do.

The adjustment is easy to do,1st check the pedal rake as if he had 5" of free travel the pedal rake should be fairly well back towards the seat, adjust the brake pushrod if required to achieve 3mm free play then slide under the car and pull the release lever until it hits the thrust pad adjust the cable for 3-5mm clearance and that is it.
When checking the free play at the pedal it id easy to get it wrong as you have extra leverage whereas if it is done at the release lever it has to be correct.
