need handbrake cables
blompod - March 2nd, 2015 at 02:19 PM

Hello all, I broke both handbrake cables on my 62 beetle, does anyone know where I can purchase these for the 14 to 16 dollars each that is the true cost in stead of the 40 dollars each Ive been quoted here? I'd just order them from OS but I need them pretty quickly. Thanks

good luck mate.
thats what they really cost over here. and you do get what you pay for as well.
i put a good set in my bug back in the early 2000s and haven't had a problem since.

... Might be getting the cost muddled up with accelerator, or clutch cable prices?

You get what you pay for.

I'm afraid the yanks and europeans have more volume of turnover and other factors that makes parts cheaper there. Euro parts are the same mixture of VW mexico and chinese stuff as here but alas we seem to pay more altho JK pricing here is pretty good :)

You could always go to a cable maker, we had a new handbrake and accelerator cable made for a Corolla, $30.00 each, they reuse the outer cover. We used Conwire in Milperra. Both cable were not available new anymore

lol 40 is mega cheap.

I'm used to paying 130 for handbrake cables and over 80 for clutch ones, 30-60 for accelerator cables for the domestic models.

VW ones are so cheap in comparison as there is nothing to them. Just pay the 40 bucks.

Okay I'll get them here but its 80 for both, I need both. I just thought how can something be 14 dollars in the UK and 40 dollars here for the same part.

14 pound = 27.51aus dollars add freight on to that and taxes. there you go.

Nope $14 not pounds is what he meant. Depends on year but you can get the cables from 8-12 UK pounds. Hence why he's asked the question :)

I asked this of the only place in Brissy and they said their price would be more than the original Toyota parts so if you can get em for $30 in your neck of the woods then you're very lucky sir :)
