Fuel gauge wiring... Help!
danza85 - March 11th, 2015 at 08:43 PM

Hey, so I got a gauge for my 61 bug, didn't have one. Has sender unit, now just need to know what goes where..

Has...
+ power, constant or switchable?
G.. ?
Earth symbol - sender unit?

Please help!

Thanks

+ is power from the ignition, connect this to the fuse box the other wire goes to the terminal on the sender unit and there will be a wire from one of the screws on the sender which goes to one of the tank mounting bolts to complete the circuit.

The gauge body itself also needs a good ground or the gauge won't read correctly. Hence why there's the earth symbol on the housings stud.

Are you still 6 V or 12?

You can fit a voltage regulator if you wish to ensure you have no problems with the gauge but I've heard many run them as is on 12v without a problem. Maybe the magnetic windings can handle the extra current but the choice is yours. Voltage reg is less than a fiver :)
