I am a little confused Ok, here it is.
GoWesty reckons that "There are two different headlight switches for Vanagon:
Early: # 251-941-531M
Late: # 251-941-531T
From the front they look and function identically. However, they are slightly but significantly different on the back. The early style switch has only
8 pins, while the late style switch has 10 pins."
Now I have pulled out my swich as I think it might be faulty and find that the low bean and high beam are not working unless I hold on the dimmer
switch. This is why I think switch is probably at fault.
Anyway it seems I have a third type of switch with the code 251941531B
and this only has 6 pins. Can someone please tell me what swtich I will need.
Also Just Kampers has a switch that they say doesn't work with park lights and I have park lights. (although it seems they have pulled it off their
website now)
TIA
All those are the same basic switches, the extra pins are just added functions.
The 6 pin switch in yours is the basic switch which just does parkers, headlights and dimmable dash lights.
The others have that as well as the extra terminals for the Euro spec side marker system.
The 10 pin T switch also has extra terminals that in Porsche 924/944 (same switch) are for the pop up headlight motors but in a Carravelle probably
something like fog lights or driving lights.
Thanks Joel!
I think that the US ones are different to ours.
Try and source one locally. (Tooleys, Mick Motors, Vintage etc)
If the initial fault was the high/low beam, I would be checking the headlight relay before the switch. Dave
I have experienced a similar issue with my old mans 'kombi.
The issue we had was that the key/ignition switch was not returning full to the "on" position from the spring loaded "start" position.
when in the start position the power is cut to the headlights (except parkers). If we wriggled the key back just a little further then the lights
would work as per normal, other wise we would have to hold the dimmer/ dipper on.
Pretty sure we just replaced the ignition switch and all was good.

Thanks Brendan will look into that right now actually.
Although I did order a new switch, just incase it was needed. Only $20 from JK, so no biggy but will give me a nice new switch.
