Alternator bearings

So after a short bit of investigation I have found that the strange whiring noise I can hear only in the cabin is the alternator bearings, can't hear anything when I lift the deck lid but removed the belt and the noise is gone, so after refering to my three books the closest I found was how to remove the alternator and then take it to a repairer (HOW TO KEEP YOUR VOLKSWAGEN ALIVE)
so I'm about to remove the alternator, getting through the fuel injection stuff looks like a bit of a mission :crazy:
Any hints before I start will be greatfully received.

mark anything you disconnect.
should only take them an hour to do the bearings.

Take photos with your camera/phone before you start anything. You can always refer back to it if required. My2c

I was planning on replacing the bearings myself, not a good idea?:?:

Nah, simple as mate. Bit different to a genny but so long as you're careful it'll come apart pretty easy. Only tricky thing is trying to get something behind the bearing to be able to pull is off. This is when those 2 piece bearing pullers come in handy but a bit of angle iron modded to fit onto a hub puller normally does the trick :)
