Cracka50 - May 16th, 2015 at 08:21 PM

Hi so im trying to get my wipers on my bus to work , noticed that the resistors i think thats wahat they are there are 2 maybe 10cm long and 1-2 cm wide.
They are gettting really hot. Any ideas?

ballast resistors do get hot when operating, just make sure they are clear of anything flammable

Oh ok, that's ok then it's a new van to me and I just worried.
Any tips on why the wipers may not work, I replaced the fuse.
Cheers

Is your van 12 volts ??

Guessing those resistors are for wasting 6volts as your wiper motor is still 6 volts

Do you have a voltmeter?

Cracka50 - May 17th, 2015 at 11:55 AM

Yea I do have one, it is 12v I'll have to show a photo of the conversion it's very funny.

my guess is the motor is the original 1200?? and a 12V generartor / alternator has been added

So the resistors near your wiper motors are just there to waste 6 volts

Oh ok, that makes sense.
1200cc hey lucky for reduction hubs ha ha
How can you confirm engine size??

Bizarre - May 17th, 2015 at 12:57 PM

what is th number under the genny stand?

adlbeetle66 - May 17th, 2015 at 01:05 PM

Yep.. engine number under generator stand..
Match it with here:

But that wouldn't show if it's been rebuilt and is a 2.3 stroker ha ha would it??
126-030601
But I'm not sure how it works is the code the 1st number ie. 1?

adlbeetle66 - May 17th, 2015 at 02:56 PM

 No, it wouldn't.. it would only show the original size ~ which isn't much help

This will fix your problem, works well in two of my cars

That looks the goods, so I would be removing the ballast resistors and going 12v to the wiper motor via this thing.
If it happens that they arnt working because the wiper motor is broken can you get a 12v motor ???

Bizarre - May 17th, 2015 at 06:14 PM

i would say you are more looking at getting your motor rewound to 12 volts

i am not knowledgeable with splits so have no idea what 12 v motors would fit

Cracka50 - May 17th, 2015 at 06:18 PM

Yea understood, I obviously have a lot to learn myself.

vwo60 - May 17th, 2015 at 09:54 PM

If your motor is 6 volts and works ok then the above device will work , as it does on two of my cars with 6 volt wiper motors, it is even variable speed.

Cracka50 - May 17th, 2015 at 09:59 PM

Yea nice, but if the car has been converted to 12v domi just remove the balast and go 12v direct using that adapter?

vwo60 - May 18th, 2015 at 07:03 AM

yes, as above.
