Hey all,
Pulled the oil gallery plugs, need to tap them. I've had machine work done to the case and now de-burred and smoothed things over.
Should I hot tank it?
Idea is to get into the oil galleries and really give it a good clean. Looking to use a cylinder head shop here in Sydney (to tap for the plugs and
then tank it).
Secondary question, should I remove the oil pressure relief valves before getting it cleaned? Or leave them in?
Any tips or relevant suggestions would be great.
Cheers
nah don't hot tank it, the solution is caustic and will dissolve alloys.
remove all bits from it, i'd use paint stripper and pressure cleaner and then a good water based degrease with pressure cleaner as a secondary stage,
blow dry it all out really well.
wear gloves, face mask and respirator with gas cartridge when doing the paint stripper, not good for you.
paint stripper cleans engines parts like nothing else in minutes, strips carbon, oil varnish, grease and everything but the metal.
Thanks vlad. I was worried about the case coming out a whole lot lighter than when it went in!
yeah they say alloy parts are a no no in hot tanks for that reason.
If you can find someone who ultrasonically cleans parts that's even better!
Comes out surgically clean then.
Anyone got a big (really big) ultrasonic cleaner?
Go to youtube and search " make ultrasonic cleaner " there's a number of how to makes there, on a smaller scale but with a bit of inventiveness you could come up with something on a larger scale.
