I've got the original fuel tank cap - new seals and all - but I noticed that sometimes its twisted on incorrectly so that its lopsided - and the fuel
vapors leak out.
I used to have another vintage Beetle that had a non-standard fuel cap - it was modern and it didn't slip. Not sure where you can find it now.
Is there a modern fuel cap that someone can recommend?
I think SuperCheap stock universal ones that can be used for different cars - have a look and see if that works

I bought a similar one from Justkampers which has an aussie based story. It works really well unlike the old original one.
The modern one has tougher springs which keeps the seal in place. The old original one - had new rubbers - but the spring was not strong.
The only problem with the new cap is that the seal is hard to turn. Maybe its a bit dry? Would rubbing a little bit of engine oil on it help?
Hi. I just want to come back and let you other owners know that I am very pleased with the Justkampers petrol cap.
I've used it for about a month now - there is no petrol smell coming from the petrol tank area now.
The original one with new seals - I think the springs are not strong enough - just kept on leaking fumes.
