The gasket kit I received with the new engine has two types of inlet gaskets. One is a fibre type. The second set is an aluminium multi layer type. Why the gasket kit comes with two types I don't know, but the original were fibre type.
Hi
Originally the upright Type 1 motor used pressed steel gaskets and Type 3s used a paper gasket, so use whichever one that you feel would seal
better.
Steve
alloy with the crush ring groove smeared with gasket goo, never have pesky vacuum leaks ever again
Well from my experience with both types I prefer using 0.5mm gasket card and making my own after getting fed up of both the alloy crush and fibre
types.
Each to their own and all that but the main thing is to make sure the manifold flange is dead flat. I use 240 wet'n'dry on a sheet of glass to
figure 8 sand the flanges flat. Warped flanges is usually the culprit of many an inlet leak
use the paper style they are reusable the crush version is one use only the paper jobless are reusable and don't leak.
Also if you have aftermarket cars and have match ported the inlets you can match the gaskets also
I hate both types but I hate the aluminium more. Much more.

I used the fibre gaskets, as that was what was on there before, and they showed no signs of leaking. I faced the manifolds also.
We are using 3.0 mm teflon gasket / spacers which are reusable and they are thermally decoupling manifold from the head....works perfect...
There is something wrong with Windows 10....no attachment was meant to be posted...
