I've inserted new heater cables into my 64 beetle - which was a challenge cause the tubes were dirty, but WD40 and some stiff wire cleaned them out.
So heater cables inserted and now coming out at the rear with the loop at the ivory knob end which is where i have the issue.
How the hell does this mechanism work. I assume that by turning the knob that the cables should pull up which then pulls the cable through the tubes
which opens the flap in the heat exchanger and heat starts flowing.
I've followed the diagram but nothing?
Hope someone can help?
Should the cable twist or pull straight up. No Idea
looks like you have the end through the pin
when it fitted you will see it slide up inside the outer section use plenty of grease
So does the cable slide up and down between the threaded sleeve #6 and spindle item #5?
Yes. centre of cable loops over the pin in the threaded casing #6 and is pulled up by the thread motion and pulled down by the heat exchanger return
springs when the threaded control knob releases tension.
The pin should also face in the vertical plane and not sideways so the cable pulls equally.
One side of the cable should be longer
Goes to the left side of the car
