Hi dubbers,
I am trying to install a 1500 sp into a 56 beetle without much luck.
When lifting it into place I need it far enough back for the gear box input shaft to clear the clutch. In doing so the right hand side heater box hits
the body work. If I move it far enough forward for the heater box to clear the body work, the shaft fouls the clutch.
Anyone come across this before and have a solution?
Joel
yes - i "believe" you need to do a bit of body work there.

he has done it many times
I'm assuming the motor you are trying to fit has 'fresh air' heaters? If so, you need to remove the heater box and then fit it back onto the engine
once it's in place.
It can also be helpful to remove the fan belt too.

I'd remove the exchangers and offer the engine up into place. This is because the 1200 is narrower than the later 1300/1500/1600 engines and so can
foul on the engine side trays.
Also, check there's no issue with the front tinware piece hitting the firewall if it's agot a dogleg oil cooler.
