36HP engine SOS
psimitar - January 18th, 2016 at 10:53 PM

Hello all,

So I'm in the process of re-building the original 36HP engine from my 56 Bug and have sent the rods away to have the big end resized.
As part of the process the small end bush and pins are checked out first and this is where the SOS comes in.

The centre of my gudgeon/wrist pins has worn under spec and as the pistons and barrels are within tolerance for re-use then I'm in need of some NOS, new or used but well within spec gudgeon pins.

These will be the 20mm diameter type pins and not the later 22mm diameter.

So if anyone can help that'd be grand.

Cheers,
Mike

Question for Dave, are 36 and 40hp the same?

Find any old 20mm new pins from something (that are longer, the right thickness, etc), then get them machined to the correct spec at your local machine shop.

Or get 22's and get them machined back?
Have heaps of 22's

40 hp are bigger carn't remember the sizes

Grinding back would be good idea would have to be center less ground if you can find a place that will do it

only 1mm on the DIA shouldn't intrude on the hardening of the pins

Thanks everyone. :)

After a bit of phoning around and waiting for Vintage to search his stash I could well have the last set of 36HP NOS pins in Australia.

Slight bit of surface rust but nothing that will affect there diameter after a tickle with some 1200 wet n dry.

So again, thanks for everyones replies and if these ones go missing in the post or there ends up being a problem with them then back on here I shall be :)
