Shift Coupler

Anyone had the same issue with their shift coupler? These are garbage - limited use and normal shifting only. 
Likely going back to stock but anyone got any other recommendations?

Glad it wasn't a steering coupling ?
I'm sure polyurethane has a use somewhere.

Yea, poly stuff doesn't handle torsional stress very well. Compression stress is fine but that's about it.
Try and find a quality stock item or for minimal slop in the linkage use a universal joint. Allows for movement in the linkage.

When swayaway made there parts out of the red stuff they were very good, I had the gear box mounts for eight years with out issues, it is the cheap
rubbish urethane the Chinese use that is the problem.

Oh no. I just bought a 'CB Performance' one, off the RPR website. Its black in the picture.
It turned up a red one, in an 'Empi' package. Rod told me they come from the same factory?
So not sure what to do now...

The CB Performance Rhino Super Coupler is brilliant. I have used the 2 block later one. Not sure if they do an early one?

My opinion may be a little biased however my advice would be chuck the red one in the bin. If you are keen to use it then make sure you carry a spare
one! Who knows though, some people may have had better luck with these than I did.

I thought by 66 they had changed to the cage style of coupler? If so then the poly is OK for this just so long as the poly is a snug fit in the cage
and the original pin thru the old rubber cage fits snugly in the poly bushes. Those hollow split pin cheap shite the aftermarket couplers use is
woeful.

Why would Australia have been behind on such a simple part? Weren't they back to CDK by then?

Yea, that's genuine Brazil VW not German VW by the looks of it. Much of the Brazilian 'VW" stuff isn't so good.

No they were Australian made then.
We really didn't have a '65 to '67 Beetle, just '64 models.
Ours had king pin suspension until '68.

Well my early 60s linkage connected just fine to my IRS gearbox with a cage type coupler but I think the big different is that the hockey stick on
early boxes has just a locating dimple in it for the grub screw and not a hole for the cages pin.
