Has anyone heard about the new penrite oil for classic vw engines?

Penrite Classic Light oil has more Zinc content and better Viscosity at 100c.

Hadn't heard about it, but I have been using the Classic Light for the past few years; no strip down so can't tell you much more.

Looks like the only appreciable difference between the light and the VW is Mg vs Ca in the spec sheet

That's marketing for you. We've been using the 20w60 plain container Penrite, on the advise of a local VW mechanic, since we got our Beetle nearly three years ago.
The car seems happy with it, even with the long heatwave we had up here a while ago.

Yep > The one that says Mineral Based on it?

Penrite HPR30 20W-60 is what our air cooled engine rebuilder recommended

Yes, that's the one.

I just use the standard black Castrol oil. I've never seen this before in the shop I go to.

The Castrol stuff is ok, Penrite, Brad Penn or ACE oils are better suited to the VW though.

This thread (below) goes into oils etc... Thought I would post it instead of this turning into a "which oil & why" thread

Agree on the Nulon Street and Track 25W60. Highest zinc + anti wear content 2300ppm on market. Great oil for air cooled.
