Hi,
I have a set of 40mm solex carbs and was going to put some stacks on them and thought maybe not, so what I did was take off the T fitting that is
attached by two small 5 x 30mm bolts that goes up to hold the air filter on to the carbs, the bottom of the T piece is 50 x 15mm = 750mm, so the air
intake is restricted by 7.5sq cm. to some degree,
So what I did,
I purchased some stainless threaded rod 1.0m x 5mm from Atom Fasteners for about $8, cut 140mm lengths to screw into the carbs, put a nut and washer
at the top of the carb to keep it secure, then figured out where I needed to drill 2 holes on the the air filter top cover for the new threaded rods,
and secured it with washers and nuts.
I plugged the original hole with a rubber grommet and I will get some s/steel vegetable strainers ( Reject shop $8 each) and use the mesh under the
top air filter cover to stop the grommet travelling anywhere.
So this should increase the area of intake by 7.5cm. well that's the theory anyway.
I haven't tried it yet because I am still waiting for a low fuel pressure regulator and gauge, Holley ($80 del x Qld) to fit.
Then an engineers certificate, blue slip, green slip, rego, the list goes on.
The engineer told me when I went to pay him a pre inspection visit that front blinkers have to be no more than 500mm from the outer guard and 750mm
min distance apart, mine were 735 apart so I had to move each one 7.5 mm apart to be legal.
Just a bit of info I found out.
