Electric problem kombi.
donn - October 27th, 2016 at 07:27 PM

Hi, I'm after some advice about an electrical problem I'm having trouble solving, '79 kombi, no indicators and the horn doesn't work, OK yesterday, today nuffn ☹️, I've worked out that they are through a common fuse, number eleven, that's according to a wiring diagram I have, but the fuse is ok and there is continuity in the cables both sides of the fuse, I've cleaned the connections just in case and installed a new flasher unit just to eliminate that, the emergency flashers work fine. All other fuses are ok, not sure where to go from here, anybody here had the problem or can suggest where to check.
Thanks in anticipation.
Don

I'd guess they may all earth through a common earth as they"re column switched, check that.

Further to my post, I went to the garage with an idea that it may be the actual indicator switch as that's another " common " area, found the high beam switch isn't working, can someone guide me on how to remove the steering wheel to get at the switch.
Thanks ancient bugger, I'll see if Ki can find the earth point.

Are you getting power to the fuse?

Yes, all are good.

Before you pull the steering wheel off, check that the plug underneath the column is pushed in fully(black moon shape). It can be the common cause of all your faults.

Thanks for the feedback. After 45 yrs in auto electrics it still feels good to be right (I was wrong once but I denied it !)
