steering arm installation
pyoties bro - December 6th, 2016 at 07:47 PM

can anyone help me by explaining how to install new steering arms to a link pin front end?
I cant work out how to get them on and keep the wheels in-line. I am installing them onto a 2.5inch drop spindle disc brake set up on a narrowed beam.
The arms can be adjusted for length.
thanks

Are they shortened to match the narrowed beam?

yes

I start with each track rod end wound hlaf way down it's threaded length. This gives a good midway point to start from. If you end up having to wind the track rod enough so that less than a 1/3 of the thread is still inside the track rod then this to me isn't good for strength of the overall track rod. So track rod is too short.

If you have to wind the track rod end until hardly any thread is left exposed than this can be a problem when you have it properly aligned by a shop. Just means they could run out of adjustment. Hence the track rod would then be too long.

make sure you center the steering box first do turn to turn to see how many rotations it does usually 3 1/2 turns so center would be 1 3/4 turns this will help you adjust the tie rods evenly

make sure front wheels are straight use a string line of the back wheels to align the fronts this will get it close
