How hard / easy is it to convert my manual '76 Kombi to an Auto?

I have a parts Kombi (74 I think from memory) that is an auto to be used as a donor.

Is it just a matter of swapping over the transmission etc and welding up the hole where the clutch pedal used to be or are their any "Gotchas"

Also what would the manual gearbox and engine be worth these days?
