Im replacing the clutch cable on my 72 Bug. I've fed the cable back down the tube and now trying to hook the cable eye onto the pedal hook.
I've spent about an hour fiddling and swearing, and trying various things but no luck.
What am i doing wrong? I feel like i'm missing something simple
Thanks in advance
Jon
Have you pulled the pedal cluster out, the cable is fitted to the hook before the cluster is slipped back into place. Obviously this is a bit tricky and is easier with someone to help by holding a little pressure on the cable as you slide the cluster back in, this stops the cable twisting on the hook or dropping off. The pedal rake will have to be adjusted afterwards for correct brake master cylinder push rod clearance.
ive tried pulling the pedal cluster out, but cant get it all the way thru the opening. The clutch pedal hook gets caught up on the edge of the hole,
no matter which way i try it.
I'll try again tomorrow
thanks mate
did you pull the accelerator shaft out of the way??? not sure if it gets in way on a super
And another little trick.
when you get the cable yoke over the clutch hook, wrap a fat rubber band over it to hold it together.
thanks guys
i managed to get the pedal assembly out. i didnt realise there was another circlip holding the brake shaft to the clutch shaft.
didnt need the rubber band but good tip for next time
