Hi
I've been meaning to mention this for some time. Most of you would know that the IRS rear trailing arms from a 944 can be fitted to IRS Beetles and
Type 3s, in either steel or aluminium.
Porsche went about mounting the front swivel attachment for the trailing arms in a different way to VW without the complicated large Allen bolt. They
simply welded to two brackets to the torsion tube which is way more simple that the way VW did it, there would be a lot less cutting and welding when
doing a IRS conversion.
Another thing that could be incorporated into custom trailing arm mountings would be the ability to alter the position where the pivot bolt goes in
this would be helpful on lowered cars.
Anyway some food for thought, I've put the 944 torsion tube in my scrap metal pile if anybody wants it let me know, I've removed the sway bars
mounts from it
Why go to all that trouble, when swing-axles are already IRS (and better)!
G'day Steve...
