Can anybody tell me if the shift rod from 1956 Oval is the same diameter as later Beetle as I want to fit a later shift guide and nylon bush to my car, my shifter finger thing is missing

yep same size you will have to do a bit of cutting to get it in there

whats wrong with the old one plenty of heavy grease will fix it
