BIG wheels...
vdub2c - October 18th, 2002 at 12:01 PM

Howdy Y'all,
My Brother is thinking of putting big fat (17" x7';) mags on a beetle 1969. He won't be doing it for a while, but he just wants to get an idea for what he has to do etc.
Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks a bunch,
Yianni.

My friend is thinking of doing the same for his 58 beetle, I haven't done it yet myself, but look up

http://www.shoptalkforums.com

and go into the euro look forum for some good info, this topic has been addressed there before. Also I think it was one or two issues of Volksworld ago they had a good article of how to fit 17 in wheels to beetles.

these are cup2's as fitted to a mates super. He has gone to the trouble of a Porsche brake conversion + spacers but the fit with ease under standarg guards. The offset is teh most important part...I think he's running et23 rear et55'ish front. If your going for jap wheels I'm no help but they are generaly 17*7 in et's of 0, 20, 40 for the FWD guys. If you do it be sure to let us know how you went about it all.

G'day 555bug

Can you tell me where he sources the wheels, brakes etc from? and possibly an approximate $$.

Cheers

Brad

thanks all for your input.. just one thing...
not all too sure what - "offset, et23, et55, et's of 0, 20, 40." Any light on the matter?

btw he is thinking of jap wheels - can't afford the ol' porsche ones.

thanks in advance fellas.

Yianni.

check out the pic for an example of what wheel offset is...

Brad, Porsche parts pop up all over the place just keep your eyes open and you'll find them. Hmmm cost lots really, wheels 2500 + tyres 1500 + adapters 500 + brake conversion 1500 + ottinger shocks + 2000 Anyway you get the idea it adds up quick. If you just want a tuff looking bug I'd probably just get the drums redrilled to accept a standard jap 4*100. 2k and you would have a nice set of 17'
