Rewinding 6v windscreen wiper motors
matara - September 14th, 2003 at 08:02 PM

I've just got my splitty blue slipped and its now become my daily driver! I remember that my wipers went like the clappers and were hard to turn off. Does anyone know of an auto electrician that can rewind the 6v motor so that I can run 12v through it. I'm not fond of those reducer thingy's

Cheers

Steve

I think Volksbahn was selling rewound armatures so you could run 12 volts in a 6 volt motor.

My mate has just asked me to keep an eye open for a 12v wiper motor for a 61 split. any ideas

Both my KG & SC are 12V but the wipers are still 6V. I use resistors to knock the voltage down but they are not the answer because when they (the resistors) warm up their characteristics change & the wipers go so fast they over-ride the stop cam. I think there are 2 options: an after market 12V motor is ideal but I'll try an electrical (radio?) place ist to see if they make variable resistors so I can "dial-in" a speed.
