hey all....
started my second square yesterday and i think i msay have some serious problems. it hasn't been started in at least 3-4 years and after a bit of
aerostart and praying she decided to kick. yay! but it also poured out grey smoke from 1 carby. it smelt badly of petrol. any ideas what it couuld
be?
thanks guys ands gals
the engine wasnt filled with that oil they put in to protect the engines when they aer in storage?
:o smoke out of the carby sounds interesting !
:bounce
not sure on the oil but it'll be changed this week. it was near the carby area...not sure exact location...any ideas?
i think there was some thing a while ago on it in forum,,,good to see your getting into it,,
not a whak heat riser?
compression test - dud valve bit ?
or just sh!t it is burning off - possum poo ?
sure it was smoke?
aerostart + crud could be the culprit. start the bugger again... might find it don't 'smoke' anymore :thumb
I'd pull the carbs and give them a good clean out, old fuel leaves a build up of varnish and a jelly like stuff, it could be making the needle
and seat stick a little, flooding the bowl.
Rob......
Hope your not using 3-4 year old petrol? As apparently petrol these days only has a shelf life of a couple of weeks before it starts going all wrong.
Not like the good old days of leaded petrol. The newer cancer causing (there safer though) petrols just aren't the same.
I am going to have to come around to your house one day soon and check out these cars.
the carbs were off my other engine....they also had not been used in a few years and they were wrapped up..they got a bit of a clean befor we used
them.
the petrol in it was about 2-3 weeks old.
i'll give her another kick this weekend and see how she goes..could just be a bit of crap with aerostart..if not i hope it doesn't catch
fire.
jason..good idea. i've been meaning to check out thoise spotties too...i'll get there this week
bump....any other opinions???
thanks to those who have replied, just checkin there is no fire hazaerd
bump again

I've *HEARD* that carbies need petrol to survive. by that i mean some seals and gasketty bits can dry out and fail without being kept moist and
petrolly. mebbe a new carb kit is on the way
hope not....the other square won't like that..he needs a new exhust
get a stainless one, that way you can tell me how much it cost you
would muller do a group buy of 2???:P
hah!
"he's dead. jim."
where is muller?
*blank look*
