Can the case be split without removing flywheel?

I guess it can but what happens to the main seal and bearing when I out the two halves together again? Would they sit & seal properly?

Hi

You can do it, but you answered your own question, you cant get to the rear main bearing, set end float or change the seal. If you dont have the tools take it to a VW shop and ask them to undo it for you.

It can be done but your main seal would leak like a sieve take the engine to a VW shop'

Yep, it will be. I have most bits and pieces including a mild cam I got from Jak which I would like to use but I never split a case before

I never have had the will to pull the case apart without removing the flywheel!!! Don't try it if you don't feel you can't do it, take it to a VW shop!!!
