Where does the clutch thrust bearing get its lubrication from?

Do you just pack it with grease when installling it and that will last it for its life time?

they are done

old ones were carbon

new ones are sealed bearings or such

( either that or the spray from a leaking main bearing seal :o )

Me no understand?? Sorry.
I am asking because I installed mine about 6 ot 7 years ago. Its a bit noisey now (when I press the pedal) so wonder if I have done it right and what should I do next time

They come packed with grease and sealed up when you buy them.

When they make noise you throw them away.

There is nothing for you to grease.

I've got a split case GB and it makes more noise when i have the clutch pedal up... ie: the gears are turing (even in neutral). When i press in the clutch, the noise goes away.. so its oppostie to a worn thrust bearing! Why does this happen? Is it just because of the old split GB?

Thrust bearings just wear out... they are prepacked with grease from the factory.
unless You have the carbon type, which just wear out also.
To stop premature wear of the clutch thrust bearing, don't have the clutch pedal pushed in waiting for the traffic lights to change... only push it in to change gears... 6-7 years of city driving is probably OK for a clutch bearing..
I know its a pain in the neck having to replace it... also when You replace the clutch bearing also replace the clutch plate and spigot pilot bearing together...

If there noisy remove and replace with a new one. Make sure you use new clip as well.

Thanks, I will replace it soon (when I get all the bits & piece ready to rebuild the engine as a 1641 with dual carbs)

I have the same problem. I havent checked the oil level in my gb yet, that may be the problem, if so i will top it up. I will let you know of the results when i get around to it.

Has anyone else had this problem?

that would be main shaft bearing rumble. Due to worn main bearings. Keeping the oil topped up may quiet it down a little. Only way to fix it properly is replace the bearings. big job. Split case boxes seem to be prone to this noise too.
Dunno if any of the gear oil additives would quieten them down. Any one.
