What's Best for the front end of a splitty?
That depends on how low you want to go!
I have an adjustable front beam, and I want to get some dropped spindles too!!
"Best" is always a big call but it's worth noting that dropped spindles do not alter your suspension geometry of travel (assuming
there's still room in the wheel well for the tyre); consequently standard-travel shocks should be OK.
Compared with the adjustable beam, dropped spindles are, however, kinda permanent.
hth
I had both installed at once!(6-7" drop) but decided pushing a tennis ball around wasn't that much fun. I have kept the adjustable front beam as the 3 1/2" drop of the spindles, was too much for my use, the spindles were a better ride but you will have to also play with wheel offsets (my tyres rubbed on everything) I am happy with just two inches of lowering as ride in the end is the most important thing!!!!!!
Well, it depends on how low you are looking to go. If you want a small drop, go with the spindles since they dont change any steering geometry or ride quality. However, if you would like to go really low, use both. When your splitty is really dumped, the link arms are turned up so much that without dropped spindles, the link arms only have so much room to go up and down, and they will start moving front to back, a littlebit. ( dont know if that makes since but I get it) As for tires rubbing, If you are trying to go really low, narrowing the beam could be the way to go. Just my 2 cents.
i d go for both.
i have dropped spindle on my current ride, 69 beetle.
am building a 60 ragtop, which is gonna have dropped spindles and avis adjusters.
beware dropped spindles will widen the front track a little, and some tyre rubbing may occur (depend on tyre size)
i have been told that avis adjusters are the best, above all others.
thats why im putting them on my rag
Kim if your having both and are talking about a narrow beam as well save your self some bucks and just use the swayaway cos your going to cut the beam
in half anyway.
Avis are great if you don`t wish to cut your beam.:thumb
