Have just had a quote done to have rear seat belts added to my 68 panel camper as well as two roof mounted child restraint bolts by a Bus and RV Mod.
company in Caloundra. I was a little shocked at the cost. Brackets, belts, bolts, cad drawings and mod plate certificate came to just under $900. Does
anyone know if this is a reasonable cost for this type of work, is there another way to have this done, can I do the work myself and get it checked by
an engineer or is there a organization from Brisbane to Sunshine coast that might be able to give me a more reasonable quote?
I live on the Sunshine coast

I just had seat belts fitted to my Karmann ghia, all up it cost $600, there may be more work involved in your I dont know, but that was at Custom street and off road at Stafford here in Brisbane. give them a call. good luck
what sort of seatbelts are you planning to get fitted? mine was fitted with lap belts all round in the back, but im pretty sure there is a limit to how close a passenger with only lap belt can be to the side of the car, hence, mine seems to have been complianced for 3 passengers, presumably the one on the cupboard side was allowed but not hte one on the window side. is this right? where can i get hold of the victorian laws?
my mate has just done up a really nice ej holden and had to put seat belts in the back cause of the lager engine..... anyway he did all the work himself then just got the engineer to look at.
prob is, because of the window height in a kombi, very hard to find a place to bolt on a lap-sash harness - useable metal seems too low to use?
I'll only be able to put lap sash belts in because of the distance from the side. If I make up some backing plates and weld them in like a normal kombi's, could an engineer check it out and set up compliance plates if it passed and if so Whom could do such a job around Brisbane? :bounce
:thumb $900 sounds about right, the local garage or road worthy mechanic would have the details of an engineer who can sign off that sort of work, remember that an engineer will charge you at least $120 to sign it off, if he wants you to change anything it will cost another $120 when you go back again
