I think ive lost a few of my 33.1 ponies,im down to 95psi in1,95psi in 2,85psi in 3 and 120psi in 4.The last 12months has seen oil consumption hit the magic 1000cc per 1000km mark,i think it was just about to bite the big one.Question can i run the engine on and engine stand without hooking up the generator, ive just got the ignition and battery wired, how long can i run the engine before i flatten the battery. And 2 can i run a new vdo tacho with a generator in the instructions they only talk about alternaters, cheers.:o
Dude!:o thast just......:o
Hey, the good news is, if your bottom end and heads are OK, it's quite cheap and easy to fit a piston and cylinder kit - get you back up to speed
real quick. Give everything a good clean; scrape the carbon off the heads with a lump of wood, make sure you can see through the oil cooler (or the
air won't be getting through either,) stretch the pushrod tubes about 1/4" before you refit them and put a little oil-resistant silicon or
gasket-maker on the seals, and bung it all back together. Don't idle for the first ten minutes and don't cruise at a constant speed for any
length of time for the first about 500km - at about the same time I'd do the first oil change.
AS for running it on an engine stand - about an hour or so before the battery goes flat, or until the whole lot crashes down on your leg; smashing it,
a head or two, the floor and breaking a few internals as it loses oil pressure... (probably only a couple of minutes, or the first time you're
tempted to give it a bit of a rev)
And don't worry about the generator bit, it was just written by someone not old enough to remember when they used 'em.
Thanks 70AutoStik,dam but your a nice guy, exactamonto what i wanted to here, have fully recoed heads just waiting and some (Barry barrels) are a just
sitten,as soon as i get the whole lot running on my engine stand ile pull it down and build her up.
