Now I know that Bay window kombis have a support bar at the back of the engine that bolts to the case each side of the pulley, but...
Can anyone tell me if you do not have a Universal case with the bolt holes, is it possible to mount a normal beetle engine in the Kombi. I've
heard a tale about a kit that bolt onto the oil pump cover?
The reason why? I have a low mileage ex-Army industrial motor that I want to put in a 71 1600 Kombi.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks
Steve
I have seen and heard of the mod you mention. Have also heard it's not recomended because of the load it puts on the pump cover bolts.
No personal experience though.
Some 'non universal' cases do have the lugs which you can drill and tap for the mounts though (I think late 1600TP)???
Pity your not in Brissy, I'd swap you for a good universal motor
What are you doing with the left over industrial motor bits?
Andy do you live near Holland Park and go to that new 'woolies' that just kind of opened up on Holland Rd?
If so I saw your dog waiting diligently in the drivers seat the other night!
Looked like he was reading to take it for a spin while he was waiting
My lab does exactly the same thing-
Nah,
Wasn't me dude. I'm a northside boy (well currently). Andy does get around Brissy though, I'm regularly in all corners
There are quite a few nice red/white bus's just like Andy getting around town. Often gives me a fright thinking it's Andy off on a joy ride

No one with more clues for Matara ????
I have found this bracket that goes on the oil pump cover. Does anyone have any experience of these?
Thanks
Steve
The adaptors are not recommended for extended use - I put about 12k on one, but I admit I didn't check for cracks before I sold it (the guy got
an absolute bargain anyway.) Check your case out - if it's 1600 it will definitely have the bosses, some 1300/1500 cases do also. Simply drill
the holes and tap them to size - this need not be as accurate as most engine machine work.
I have seen cases cracked from the oil pump cover mount method...
