Just recently, my bug has just been dying. Some days it can run with no problem at all, but out of the blue it will die. no power at all. it wont restart, but if you leave it for while (overnight) it starts no worries. its got me a bit baffled. would this be a fuel filter problem, or a carby problem? and what should i do to fix it?

im a novice and i dont even know if this is possible but sime type of vsapour lock? dies coz of lack of fuel . . . . then when the fuel cools after you leave it for a while . . . . Vwala ??

eh its my guess and i duno how to fix it , maybe block your heat riser tubes . . . . but i think we wait for some more expert advice

yes i think adam is on the right track. Can you touch the end of the dipstick when it dies? is should be hot enough to tolerate but no hotter. Also when you touch the inlet manifold is it cool? does it have condensation on the outside?

You don't say what eng is in it but after it dies, take off the air cleaner & look down the throat while you work the throttle (accelerator) at the carby. Do you see petrol squirting or gurgling?

Im with Geodon,pull your fuel tank off and empty out 41yrs of crud,even if its not the problem think of the fun yule have.

Its a Type 3 Engine converted to upright. I did take the carby off and fuel did squirt out, Like water from a spray bottle. Havent touched the dipstick yet,but next time it does it i'll check.
