Weber dcnf?
crazyfiggi - October 14th, 2003 at 06:14 PM

Hey, are weber dcnf 40mm carbs any good? I was given a set with manifolds and linkage and was wondering if i should fit them to my 1600, or should i buy some manifolds for the pair of weber 36mm idf carbs i have and fit them up?
Thanks guys,
Alex.

They are "old skool"

That said they can be good
They apparently have some bowl orientation problems and can cause level problems when cornering. type 3 like em cause of their low height. Berg used them in the 60 - 70's.
IF you have the patience put em on and see how they go. Would be cheaperthan buying IDF's.

I can email you the Haynes section if you wish. Several people here have them - not sure if they heve them working yet though

I have a dcnf that I swapped a guy when I was toying with the idea of a draw through turbo.
he had it on an 1835cc, I swapped him for a pair of 40's that I had also on an 1835. he's much happier with the dual down draft's

I have had both on my beetle. Hard cornering does leave the carb (on one side) starving for fuel, so you have a hesitation. Apart from that, they have been good. If you have the idf's already, then I would go with them.:P

Is this for a type 3 or a type 1?

Quoll- they are for a type 1.
