Shifter bushing question....
Adam_C - October 28th, 2003 at 02:16 PM

Firstly, should there be more parts bolting to the tunnel than the collar that goes around the shift rod, the spring and the shift rod itself?

Secondly how do i change the shifter bushing on my 66?

Thirdly how do i change the coupler?

pics would be helpful

cheers

Your 66 does not have a nylon bush on the gear shift rod.

sounds like your missing the gear selector plate that stops you going into reverse unless the gearstick is depressed.

Its a thin bit of metal the shape of the gear stick cover plate. It has a hole in the guts with a tab that sticks up. and 2 bolt holes one at each end.

the gear coupler is changed while the stick is out. theres 2 square headed grub screws taht have to be removed and the gear shift rod slides forward.

no shift bushing? woops . . . .allready ordered haha what models have them?

so all that i have to change is the coupling? nothing changed at the shifter end to make it better shifting..... and im adding a quick shift kit.... ihave the stop plate reverse tab thing here, it has a large hole and on one side of the hole there is a tab at right angle to the rest of the plate, this the one that ur talking bout dave?

Grahame

Ive never found one in a pre 67 car... but maybe there all deteriated. The fish your looking represent O/Seas models dosent it.... which would be correct for cars after 64 or so ???

Carnt say about ghias ...

Adam sound like you have the right plate. Now this only goes in ONE way but can be fitted several different ways. the tang must face up and forward.
