Just bought a 94 Golf III VR6. On two occassions now, I have had trouble starting it. The engine turned over okay but wouldn't fire up.
Immediately after each unsuccessful attempt, the oil pressure warning lamp would briefly blink. The car was parked on a slight incline and the oil was
a little low at the time.
Oil has now been topped up and it's been fine since. Could the low oil level have caused this or is it something more insidious?
So the oil pressure lamp would be on before you cranked and would flicker after stopping right? this seems ok as cranking the engine over turns the
pump as well.
If the oil level was too low there wouldn't be enough oil in the sump for the pump to pick up. Seeing its only 8 years old i doubt it is an out
of spec clearance inside the engine, unless the previous owner never got it serviced and ran it around with little to no oil or something.
cheers
Thanks. From what I can gather, the previous owners had it regularly serviced by VW mechanics. If it's not a concern to you, its not a concern to me. Ta.
