If I to recondition the front end on my KG (link & king pins) what needs replacing apart from shocks? I feel every bump on the road

Just done this to a front end for my Ghia. To do the job properly, you'll need new:-
King and link pins, torsion arm rubbers, steering box (if yours has play), tie rod ends, steering damper, shocks, wheel bearings, and all the brake
stuff.
New king and link pins will make a big difference to this. To check if their stuffed, adjust the lock nuts, if they don't move then your at the
end of your adjustment. Pump a bit of grease into the king and link pins with the car on the ground if you can poke your head in there. Watch the king
and link pin area for movement when you pump the grease. If there is any movement, your K&L's are shot.
Its an expensive ordeal to do the whole lot, but at least then you know you've got a nice solid front end.

But try adjusting the steering box before replacing it. Not sure about KG's, but it can be done on my kombi.
no there the same Col undo the lock nut and turn the screw in while rotating the steering wheel, with the wheels off the ground. If the screw goes
down past the thickness of the nut then its time to replace the steering box.
Cool, thanks Dave. I didn't think they'd be too much different. Even the box in My 4x4 uses the same system.
And then the bushes/ beraings inside the beam can be stuffed, as well as your torsion arms, especially the inner bushes.
