What is the process. Have to get sandblasted first?
What would it cost to get a set of kombi tin done.
Mine just got sent off to the powdercoaters... I think they did whatever needed to be done. Don't remember how much mine cost, but its beetle anyway. Not as expensive as HPC :P
I had mine done local (Botany), $100 for 13 items all up I think. But I did do the sandblasting. type 1.
Lots of places do the blasting as well as the coating.
IS the powder coating a high temp coating, I realise it probably no good for exhuast pipes but do the powder coaters reckon the Coating will last on
engine tin ware. I'd love to get mine done!!
Cheers
If it is not necessarily for a show vehicle, then spray can epoxy enamel is really good. I scrubbed our tinware and gave a coat of epoxy and it is
really tough. It is not brittle so it wont chip. :thumb
only $8 for a can. I did everything that can be done.
I use the $5.00 spray cans of semi gloss black from the hardware shop, I bead blast the tinware first, works good enough for me.
Easy to touch up if you scratch a bit too.
NO the first step is to ge the stuff fitted to yr engine and make sure you have all the right bits.
Second step is to make sure its all straight and not cracked, if so fix it before you send it for painting other wise yr wasting yr time and money.

Whatever you do dont get the oil breather sand blasted, I've seen a motor destroyed by having the tinware powdercoated.....they couldnt get all the sand out of the oil breather......it went into the engine, and the engine lasted a couple of months and was stuffed......
Powder coating works on tinware and stays on. It was on my tinware in kombi #1.
I only want to do the tin that is visible in the engine bay. ie the back, tops, 4 around the front of the fan shroud, and the shroud itself. Why? Cos
its got flaking paint, lightly rusted so needs blasting too. If I get it blasted and powder coated then I dont have to spend time trying to clean it.
I've already done the panel beating on it, made cover plates for unwanted EFI holes.
Maybe I should just pay to have it blasted and spray it. I dunno. I'll ring around tomorrow and see how much extra the powdercoating is over
blasting.
Salahahdin, powder coating is used by OEMs on radiators, so i reckon it will cope with tinware temps.
Sweeet. Just picked it up and it looks great. And the surprise of the century, I was quoted 'around $150' but they only charged me $70. Wish
I had of got the fan housing done now.
So tomorrow after my exam I'm coming home to hopefully make some VW sounds.
