Bigger betta brakes
lil bug - November 5th, 2003 at 09:23 PM

I'm fitt ing early type 3 brakes to the rear of my '65 beetle, i have to mill a little of the snub of the bigger drum.

The question is does anyone know how much I need to mill off it?

I have read that it is .525 of an inch... and measured it to be just over 13mm... can anyone confirm this?

Hi

A few times I have done the reverse, fitted early brakes to late (long axles) I found that the oil seal runner was the perfect spacer, so you could measure on of them. You could also measure the lenght of the splined section on your old drums.

lil bug,

Not sure if you are putting early or late T3 brakes on the rear. I'm guessing its early as

0.525 inches = 13.33500 millimeters

I have a heap of old VW trends technical articles in pdf format, one of which covers fitting early T3 rear brakes. Here is a snapshot of the one you need. U2U me with your email address and I will email it to you.

Cheers
