I'm thinking of buying a SIP Migmate 150 Dual Purpose. They are an Italian made machine. Does anyone have any feedback on how good they are?

I have had that exact welder for about 4 years it has been great. Perfect for automotive work like rust repairs and exhausts. The only time I overloaded it and made it shut down was after lots of 5mm angle without a rest. When buying a welder you should factor in the cost of an auto darkening visor it will really improve the quality of the welds.

I have had a MIGMATE 140 for 9 years and thrashed heaps of times. Still going.

If I was to buy a welder now I would buy a CIG Coppermate as I would prefer a slightly larger unit for more than vehicle and light welding.

Still nonetheless I would recommend the Migmate for panel work no probs.

If I was you I would go with the SIP 170 over the 150. It is worth a few more $$ but is a much better welder. It has the copper core inside so has a far greater duty cycle and will not get damaged by over work as easy as the 150 with alloy inside.

SIP is a great budget welder and I ran a 150 for 6 years before upgrading to a much bigger welder. Ended up buying a 170 as well so I could carry it around to do smaller jobs.

I rate them and have never had any problems with eth SIP 150 or 170.

I ended up buying it! A SIP 150 Migmate Dual Purpose for $550 incl GST.

Its gas/gasless, fan cooled, 2 rolls wire, regulator, gas bottle and a spares kit.

the guy at Weldzone said he has sold 110 of these in the last 6 months!

I bought an SIP 150 about 3 months ago, and given the choice again I would probably buy a different model, it has been back in the store for the past month waiting on some parts under warranty, it had a blockage and blew the gooseneck (trigger assembly) and they dont have any in the country at the present, apart from that had teething problems with wires not being connected properly and poor fitting leads, but like all things I could just have been unlucky to get the runt of the litter. I am presuming that yours came with the small gas bottle, I found that it was chewing through those bottles too quickly and at around $25 each, the welding was becoming expensive so I went along to the gas place and made an adaptor so that I could use the big cylinders that you hire, when it was working it was great, the adaptor cost $10 but I had to buy a proper regulator for the bottle which was $120- but it was well worth it, compared to using the small bottles, I have set it up so you can still use the small bottles, which comes in handy with transporting.

Good luck with it.... oh and if you are new to welding, flapper discs are also a good investment, to give the job a nice clean finish.
