Stopped working a few weeks ago. Does anyone have any idea of the possible culprits?

Try fuse first.
Probabally need a multimeter or test lamp

Can also have cooked where the wire joins the lighter

Matches wouldn't help charge my phone And besides if anyone dared to light a flame in my car would find themselves on the sidewalk in not time!

A lot of older models didn't come with a factory cigarette light; the dealer often fitted an aftermarket unit, or even a previous owner. You may find that there is an inline fuse in the power supply line to the cigarette lighter, and its location may not be immediately obvious.
