pyr0 - December 15th, 2003 at 09:28 PM

ok people heres whats up:

my oil light is flashing when im at a complete stop and its ideling really "lumpyish", i also found the other day that after one trip to the beach there wasnt much oil in it....and that was just from the trip, but no oil had "exploded" out anywhere and the bus wasnt smoking on the way there or back

ive filled it back up with oil now and it semms to be holding it ok...

some one suggested changing the oil filter ?? is this along the right wave length ??

any advice would be great thanks :thumb

Change your oil and filter. Do a compression test if possible and check for leaks. Does it "knock" ????Bearings might also be on the way out:(:(Good luck.....hope all is well!!

if its idling lumpy and the oil light flicks on try turning up ur idle. it may be to low and not enough oil is going through.

As for oil usage mine slowly uses up oil how long ago did u check the oil before the beach trip? if it was months it mite just be oil being broken down?

Get a service done on your car if you dont know what your doing might save you an engine rebuild.

Hey Pyro man
Have a look at the balance tube that runs between the carbie's there are right angle rubber elbo's on each end of it (carbie intake manifolds), if one of them is stuffed it causes a vacuum leak in the system and the Kombi will run roughly lowering the idle and lowering the oil pressure when the engine is warm.
Have a look at them first, if their OK you have to take it to Volkshaven.

mine idles rough after a hi speed trip, its an auto so i chuck it in N and its fine, its just the oil pressure getting back up and the low revs dont help.

pyr0 - December 16th, 2003 at 09:38 PM

sweet ill check that tube tomorrow robo......just a quick question how would it get like that to start with ???

it weird cause on the way home tonight it was idleing 4 a lil bit at dead stop but then it would like get lumpyer and the oil light flickered....other than this problem it runs great..kind of stranger i think :(

kombikim - December 16th, 2003 at 10:37 PM

idle getting "lumpier" is usually too rich idle mixture, possibly even only on one carb, the plugs gradually load up with the excess fuel & don't fire properly, then the idle can get really slow, so does the oil pump & because the oil is very hot & thin the oil pressure goes below 5 psi & the warning light flickers

Rubber gets old and hard, then it split's.

a flickering oil light usually means Your engine is idling too low... rev it up a bit..
An engine at very low revs (low idle) will be lumpier as the engine is really trying to stop altogether....

thanks guys..it was the rubber L joints on the end of the balace tube that were shot as well ass the utilex clamp that some one used to how the tube that goes infront of the balance tube ( no idea what its called ) had come off cause it wasnt done up tight enough .....but its all sweet now thanks guys
