i own a 73 combi with a 1800 cc motor in standard condition can anyone tell me can i remove the heads without removing the motor ? i think i have a loose valve insert in no 3 cyl . or is it easier to remove the motor /?

Remove the motor, no question.

Like Dave, I personally would remove the motor first, but it is certainly possible to remove a head without removing the motor.

I suppose it depends on your equipment and situation. If you have access to a good trolly jack and a cement area to do the work, I'd pull the motor. If you only have spanners and a grassy area to work in, pulling the head alone is probably better.

Just be certain of the problem before you remove the head though
