Kombi disc fit on link pin beetle?
Mad Manx - January 10th, 2004 at 12:35 AM

Has any one/ is it possible to adapt late model type 2 front disc to a link pin beetle front end? Its just that some are available to me but I don't ever recall hearing of this mod before.

The easiest way to do it is using a Beetle disc set up.

Kits are avaialble from Vintage in Sydney 02-9789-1777

The later Type 3 caliper is best and biggest for this set up

I dont think the Kombi set up will have clearence for the disc and caliper on the narrow wheels.

Yes it can be done. I know a guy in Horsham Vic. with them on his Baja. He's also fitted 1600 Kombi box and 4 joint Kombi hubs etc. He's been running this setup for about 5 years and says it's great.

Ian

Whats the advantage of the Kombi discs on a Beetle ??? any reason

I can see the advantage of the Gearbox and CVs but not the front discs.

mmmm wheel clearance shouldnt be a problem as I am running 15x8 rims up front but then they are wide 5 anyhow so I was planning to change to kombi rims untill I get new wheels made.

Two reasons kombi front discs would suit me is that 1. I can get a set free :D
2. I plan to install a kombi box in the rear thus then I would have matching stud pattern on all four corners.

If kombi discs are to hard to fit up front then I will set about fitting late model beetle discs.

Question: do late beetles and Kombis have the same stud pattern?

I can't any real benifit, in fact I think it would be too much brakes on the front, particuarly on a Baja. I would be more inclined towards Beetle discs and late Type 3 rear drums on back to cope with larger diam. tyres common to the back of Bajas.
