DIY Head-Up Display (HUD)
modulus - January 10th, 2004 at 08:57 PM

Looking at the Concept T off-roader specifications, I notice it has a head-up display, or HUD as it's known to its friends.

Has anyone tried to do something like a DIY HUD, e.g. if I mount and LCD tachometer on the dash facing me, then a mirror facing back to the windscreen, will I be able to read the RPM off the windscreen? In daylight? At night? Does the windscreen need some sort of coating?

t.i.a.

Normally the glass has a special coating. A mate had a Skyline and broke his windscreen. Cost him $$$2400 for a new one!!!The next one he broke he just put a normal screen in and didn't worry about the display. It was not covered by insurance.:jesus

Yikes! That's more than my budget for the whole front half of the truck...

Yeh but it would be good if you could play space invaders or sumfink while your driving on the highway (*in a straight line). I'm sure there would be a cheeper way to get one to work????Would look cooool:bounce

This would be good in combination with a multi-function (gaming) steering wheel - space invaders with left-right and fire thumb buttons on the wheel...

What about just a wheel mounted firing button connected to concealed twin Brownings... Or, a wheel mounted firing button connected to the seat bottom so you could light farts... :bounce

You can get a kit from the US, instead of being projected on to the front screen you get what I first thought was just a clear plastic screen, but having read this thread I now know it is coated with something a little special.
The typical thing is I can't remember where I saw it...... http://www.lo-rdz.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dunno.gif

Thanks Rob,
It's useful to at least know that there are materials available, I can always search the net for them.

Bobbles,
the same day I saw your post I also saw a silver, convertible Aston DB-6 at the stop lights and wondered if it had Brownings.
