stevosky - January 13th, 2004 at 06:33 PM

I know it has probably been asked a million times before but I can't find any info in previous posts. Can anybody tell me what tension the rear axle nuts need to be done up to.I think it is 250 foot pounds but can't remember exactly.
Thanks Steve

Ive read differing torque values but the one i use is 316 Ft Lbs. Never had a problem with an axle nut or flywheel comming loose.

get 1.5m pole and jump on it with a 36mm socket on the other end. the cotter pin should prevent the nut coming off in the event of not tightening it up enough.

My Bentley manual for 1970 - 1979 beetle/super/ghia states 217 ft/lb for the brake drum to shaft slotted (castle) nut, but I have also read else where 250 ft/lb
