Kombi Suspension

Hi, we have a 76 kombi, we also have a baby due in 3 weeks and with myself and now my wife being on the larger side, we only have a about 20mm travel before the car bottoms out. The car rides and steers well, Do I need new shocks? if so what is a good option- gas/air?
Also this is a camper and with more and more camping equipment becoming available for campers I am thinking the rear may have to be beefed up a little also,
Has anyone had to do the same?
thanks Col and Nat

Shocks have no effect whatsoever on ride height! Shocks simply dampen sudden up/down wheel movements as you go over potholes/bumps. They're not weight-bearing at all.

you could always fit AIR Shocks, you can then pump up your height at the service station !
If the same amount of weight is always in the Kombi, then raise the height of the car by having someone adjust the torsion bars etc.

Front is non adjustable (if it's stock), so either you have a broken leaf or two, or they are badly sagging. Best to replace the bad leaves in the front tubes.
Rear is a simple matter of adjusting the torsion bars by rotating the torsion bars on there splines.
Both jobs can be done at home, but not a job for the faint harted or not mechanically minded
