is there any way?
mine simply fold forward with no latch or anything, same with the back seat. im worried my sub woofer box will be the ned of me if i brake hard one
day.
has anyone modified these seats to make them any safer?:birthday
i fitted hi back seats from a later model on my my daily driver (fastback).
had the sub almost in my lap once. all i do now is have the rear seat belts done up and pulled tight to hold the seat firm.
a mate of mine weld in two l brackets and then has a screw that holds the seat in each corner.
as for the front seats. you can search aroung for a pair of reclining brackets, that were available and fit the early model seats. they not only hold
the the seat from going forward. they also allow for the front seats to recline. i just happened to fluke them when i was in england. but you might be
lucky.
Put in 68 low back seats. They have a latch to stop them falling forward. As for the rear it should have a hook behind the seat on the body where a rubber strap hooks onto thats joined to the seat. Use a chain instead of rubber as rubber will hold shit.
redkg, i'd still like to keep low back seats in my oval, but make them safer.
twoguns, i hav no rear seatbelts, but yeah, i might try to weld in something to tie the back seat to, which will also help hold the subs better.
herbie, i hav seen those seats from 68s, they do look alot safer, but i already hav my seats retrimmed so i will hav to look for another way.
in the back theres nothing to hook the seats onto, there was in my 59, like a small bar sticking out of the wall and a hook coming out of the seat
back to hook over the bar.
but theres nothing in the oval.
thanks guys for ur help
yeah i have tombstones in my 63 as well, although i was more concerned about getting whiplash if i ever get rear ended... i know the only real
solution to that is to get rid of them altogether
funny u say that castro,
i just got rear ended by a new WRX!
i was stopped waiting at the lights and he just hit me in the back. lucky he was going only about 15km/h coming to a stop, he said he wasnt paying
attention.
no damage to my rusty rear bumper,
but yeah, my neck didnt feel so good after...
:o
Considering the options your leaving us VWfool the only thing I can suggest is tie some rope around the two pieces of the seats so they don't fly foward. I would go and get a set of 68 seats and get your seat material you have now put onto these new ones. Thats the only way mate.
mmm i am seriously considering swapping my 63 over to a late IRS pan, not only do i get to fit later seats with head restraints, i get the 4 joint suspension, tranny, brakes etc...
You don't need to change pans to have the later seats in your bug. 68 seat runners are the same as early 60s and 50s. All seats fit no worries.
Lbugs and Sbugs may be the only ones different. Not sure on that.
I have a 63 beetle on an IRS pan. I run early seat frames. My race seat is welded to a early frame and it went in no probs. But IRS rocks in
handling compared to Swingaxle. My 66 ragtop beetle will be staying swingaxle though and it will be my daily driver.
herbie, i will consider that option, the 68 seats do sound abit better.
can u hav IRS but keep wide five brakes? :sandrine:cry
Thats something I am trying to do at the moment. I have 4 stud at the moment but I do have some early 5 stud type 3 brakes for the rear that I will put on soon and I am waiting for Vintage Vee Dub supplies to make their 5stud disk brake kits for the front. Until then I will leave it as 4 stud. Shermans have a 5 stud kit but I am unsure about them.
