Any ideas what this is?

Any ideas what this is its covered in grase its NOS with a few numbers as in the photo. It has a threas at the end which turns within the main bit . some kind of steering bit?

I think its the output or input shaft out of an early steering box. Its missing its mate that transferes the direction of the steering.

The threaded section or bolt is the adjusting screw thats sticks out of the top of the steering box and takes up the slack in the steering
