What torsion bars fit in the rear of a 66 swing axle beetle? Will IRS late model type 3 bars fit? Are squareback bars rated heavier? If the back bars are changed to something heavier/stiffer will this effect front to rear suspension balance? Anyone done this?

Irs bars are longer and won't fit a swinger '66 beetle.

I have used Type 3 bars in my early pan-but have done an IRS conversion as well,so are using the Type3 spring plates(with the double plates)I have a feeling some early Beetle swingers used a spring plate with the long snout for the torsion bar spline to locate-if not spring plates from an early swinger Type 3 should work.

you can get a swaybar for a swingaxel from whiteline. ive got one on my 65, they also help stop the rears from tucking under.
It makes a huge handling difference.

dont be tempted to put a heavier sway bar on the front as it makes understeer more likely

Ovals used heavier bars, but as in the case of the swinger type 3 you need to change the spring plate & cover as well.

If you go Type 3 get the wagon ones, they are the heaviest.
