I found this a while ago but didn't read it very well. I've only just noticed that they talk about converting VW bug gearboxes to foot shift and chain drive. how the hell would you do that? and could you do it here legally? any ideas?

heres the article:

"Simo, Anders & Lennert from Roslagen in Sweden like VWs. They also like motorcycles! and this is the result... 3 totally unique bikes, none of which cost more than $1000 (£600) to build.
Despite the ratty look, there's some serious engineering in those babies: 100% home made frames, 1800cc campervan engines (more powerful & just as cheap as a Bug motor), single sided front and rear swing arms (so Simo could use the original VW hubcabs), the original Volks gear boxes converted to foot shift and chain drive - the list goes on and on.
Other cool stuff includes a seat from a WWII anti-aircraft gun, gas tank made from an oil drum, parts from Saab & Datsun cars etc. And all 100% road legal!"
