After market steering wheel trouble!
buzzbug - January 25th, 2004 at 03:50 PM

Ok, i have bought a sports wheel for my bug.
i have it on and swapped the horn ring over, the only trouble is that the horn button has two conections on it and the horn ring from my old wheel has only one conection.

I have hooked up the button to the ring but as soon as i turn the car on the horn sounds by itself.

Can anyone tell me what is going on and how to fix it? I am driving around with no horn and there are alot of wankers going around unabused because of it.

I have an aftermarket wheel as well, the second connection for the horn button hooks into the wheel Boss usually. Could also be a few other things the horn wire at the steering box end may have come off and is earthing, or steering rod may be earthing in some way to the body as you are tuning the wheel. Just a few suggestions

VW Horns can be a a pain in the butt..
with their Horns being hooked to power all the time the ignition switch is on....
Easier to put a button just under the dash...

Cheers 68autobug and kombi69.
I think i will have to see a sparky and get the button under the dash or something like that.
That just means that i will have to adopt the honk then abuse technique, rather than the steer with hand on horn and abuse technique.
